OnePlus 5 To Launch Today | Here's How To Watch The Live Stream At 9:30 PM IST
The OnePlus 5 is all set to be unveiled later in the day today at a special event scheduled at 12 PM EDT. The phone will be unveiled globally at multiple locations. While this is the first announcement for OnePlus 5 globally, the phone is expected to arrive in India a couple of days later, on June 22. For all OnePlus fans, there will be a live keynote which can be streamed and watched live at 9:30 PM in India.
The OnePlus 5 will be the nest flagship phone from OnePlus and will succeed the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Details and specifications of the device have already been revealed, leaving little to our imaginations. In India, OnePlus ran TVC for the smartphone during the India-Pakistan ICC championship final match and the smartphone was seen pretty much from all angles. Already, OnePlus gas heavily teased the smartphone and brought multiple celebrities on board to talk about and create hype around the device.
The OnePlus 5 seems to be heavily inspired by Apple's iPhones. The phone will come in a sleek all-metal body with no antenna line on the rear panel. The one thing missing OnePlus 5 when compared to other flagships is the lack of the near bezel-less design. The bezels are slightly slimmer but they are definitely there. OnePlus has also stuck to the physical home button with the fingerprint scanner below the display - somethings more recent flagships are aiming to do away with. The placement of buttons on the device stays constant.
In terms of specifications, the highlight of the device is the dual rear camera. The phone is expected to come with a 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel Sony sensor camera on the back accompanied by a LED flash. The camera lens placement is horizontal on the top left. While the first camera is a standard one, the second comes with a telephoto lens to replicate the depth of field effect created in portraits. The camera also comes with the zoom feature, letting users focus on the person or the object and reducing the sizes, without having to crop the image.
OnePlus has focused entirely on the camera and the hardware this time round and other features have taken a backseat. Though OnePlus 5 will continue to battle flagships, it has taken a slightly different route for doing so. The phone is expected to feature the Snapdragon 835 chipsets and come in two internal storage variants. The base variant is most likely 64GB coupled with 6GB ram. The higher-storage variant with 128GB and 8GB ram has been rumoured but there's no confirming if it will actually be announced or whether it will be a region specific option.
Details around the battery and display size are unknown though the grapevine suggests a 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch large FHD or QHD display with 2.5d curved glass. The phone is most likely to debut a new version of oxygen os based on Android nougat 7.1.1. Coming to the price, unlike previously when OnePlus has offered high-end specifications at nearly half the price of competition flagships, OnePlus 5 will be a pricey affair. Reports suggest the phone will be priced starting $500 globally while in India, the variant is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 32,000 to Rs 38,000. That s a steep incline from the present OnePlus 3T price.
With the launch of OnePlus 5, the company will discontinue OnePlus 3T model in most countries, a decision which sparked outrage and led multiple OnePlus fans to take to social media to vent their displeasure. However, in India, OnePlus has confirmed that OnePlus 3T will continue to be available till December 2017, post which it will be discontinued. OnePlus in India is expected to be an Amazon exclusive. The phone will go up for sale on June 22, at 4:30 PM. OnePlus has invited fans to witness the launch of the phone and is selling passes to the Indian event online for Rs 999.
