Finally! Instagram Introduces Comment Threads To Make Conversations Easy
Instagram has introduced support for threaded comments on its social media platform. Similar to Facebook, users will now be able to be a part of a conversation thread and reply to a comment by simply tapping the reply button under individual messages. The update is available as a part of Instagram version 24 and above for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in Google Play and will be available globally in the coming weeks.
Instagram said in a statement, “Comment threads help you keep track of conversations and make it easy to respond to a specific thread. This update will make your feed an even better place to share interests, get inspired and connect with others.”
The new update is similar to the threaded comments seen on the parent company, Facebook. Instagram added, “Now, when you hit reply underneath any comment, your response will automatically be grouped right underneath it in a thread.”
In the past, Instagram said it is using artificial intelligence to filter nasty comments and spam at the popular Facebook-owned photo-sharing service. The move comes as Facebook and other internet companies work to curb trolls, hate speech and the spread of violent ideology on their platforms. "Many of you have told us that toxic comments discourage you from enjoying Instagram and expressing yourself freely," co-founder and chief executive Kevin Systrom said in a blog post.
Instagram said that the filter scanning for spam is designed to work in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. "Our team has been training our systems for some time to recognize certain types of offensive and spammy comments so you never have to see them," Systrom said. "The tools will improve over time."
